The history of AIC

In 1978, Aviation Insurance Intermediaries, a division of Insurance Management Corp was born. Aviation Insurance Intermediaries (AII) specialized in servicing the general aviation community and provided insurance to personal aircraft owners for personal and business use.

A few years later, Jerry Brockhaus started his insurance career as a Farmer’s Insurance Agent. He soon became passionate about his new career and serving his clients in a way that caused them to keep coming back and referring all their friends. Due to this service, he grew a very successful Farmer’s Agency. Jerry also had another love in his life, his flying. He has been a pilot since 1973 and spent every minute he could in the air. One day in 1981, Jerry asked himself, “why not combine two things I am passionate about, Aviation and Insurance?” And with that, he started his own aviation insurance business that he served his Farmer’s clients and friends with. The problem was that he could only get two aviation insurance companies to sign him on.

In 1989, Jerry knew he loved the aviation community and desperately wanted to expand his aviation insurance company. At the same time, Insurance Management Corp needed to spin-off it’s aviation branch, AII, and a merger from heaven was formed. Out of that merger came Aviation Insurance Corporation (AIC). This merger also allowed the company to grow big enough to be able to represent all the major insurance companies.

Since then, AIC has continued to grow and expand. Shortly after the merger, Jerry added 3 insurance specialists, all of whom are still with the company today and the company has grown to service several thousand clients. In 2008, Jerry brought on a new partner, Jeff McClaran, to help him manage and grow the company even more, which will also allow him to be able to spend more time with his corporate flying. Today the two owners head a financially strong and prosperous agency with a total staff of 7 and growing. AIC now specializes in all facets of the aviation community, from pleasure and business to corporate and commercial aviation.
